Project Brief
This weatherboard house extension in Carnegie is a great example of the work RQM Construction excels at. The brief included removing the old dated, brick flat roof extension.
As with all older style houses, the demolition needs to be done carefully to ensure structural integrity. The design required we build a new weatherboard extension to match the pitched roof – and blend perfectly with the existing house.
The client wanted a modern interior with particular focus on the kitchen, living and dining areas. The master bedroom was updated to include a walk in robe and ensuite. We added an alresco area and renovated the shed to fit in with the house.
The Work We Did
This project was done in stages to enable the owners to live in the property while the extension was built. This required careful planning and communication to keep things on track.
Stage 1 turned the bathroom into a master bedroom walk in robe. A temporary kitchen was established in this area for the duration of the renovation. Then we changed the existing toilet into a well designed ensuite – which was used by the owners during the rest of the build.
Stage 2 started with demolishing the existing extension and building the new living areas and alfresco entertaining out the back. The work also included building a new bathroom, toilet and laundry. The home was freshly painted to unify the design elements and tie everything together.

The Result
The result of this extension is a larger family home that works particularly well with the existing property. The construction highlights the good design and attention to detail in the fixtures and finishes. It now has 2.5 bathrooms and two living areas. And a fabulous kitchen and dining room leading to the alfresco area out the back.
RQM Construction not only delivered an excellent building project, but also followed a process and plan enabling the client to live in the house during the building works. This is no easy feat and something the owners appreciated.
This project was a major extension in Carnegie that tastefully transformed the old property into a modern home. It provides not only more usable living space, but brings in light and style into a house the owners and their family are truly proud of.
